Sopra Steria Recruitment climbs mountains to raise funds for Combat Stress

26 September, 2016: Over the weekend of 10/11 September 2016 a team of 10 from Sopra Steria Recruitment made it up and down Pen Y Fan, situated in the Brecon Beacons National Park, on our fundraising walk for Combat Stress, the veteran’s mental health charity.

Our team ranged from ‘twentysomething’ to ‘old enough to know better’; from colleagues pushing 20 years' service to one who joined us only last month. This really did bring us all together.

We had an initial climb into low cloud but the weather cleared as the day progressed and turned into perfect conditions for the walk. We all made the top of Pen Y Fan safely, as well as Corn Du whilst the faster and fitter took on the double challenge of Cribyn and Fan Y Big.

The overwhelming sense of achievement and amazing team spirit certainly made up for the aching muscles and tired bodies.

And will we be doing it again? Oh yes: we're setting a date for Spring 2017.

We did this walk to raise awareness and money for Combat Stress which is the UK's leading veterans' mental health charity treating a range of mental health conditions including PTSD, depression and anxiety.

Mental health issues can affect ex-servicemen and women of all ages. Right now, there are more than 6,000 veterans registered with them for support. Combat Stress is a vital lifeline for these veterans, and their families. They are Care Quality Commission (CQC) registered and the NHS England PTSD specialist treatment provider for veterans.

Their treatment and support services are always free of charge for veterans. so any donations really help them to make a difference.
